Beautiful sunshine

Lovely to have had some warmth and sunshine. Amongst other things I have been planting out cosmos which have settled in well in a big raised bed and I am hoping to pick them before too long. The herbaceous borders have grown tremendously over the last week or so and will soon be bursting into colour. Already there is much of interest and beauty to feast your eyes on in the NurtureNature garden. We had tremendous thunderstorms over the weekend with heavy rain which was largely good for the garden but has flattened a few tall plants such as the knautia which were already leaning over. Roses are blooming including the wonderful stripy Ferdinand Pichard, one of my favourites and Gertrude Jekyll with her heavy beautiful scent. Sweet peas are also flourishing and picking regularly to keep them coming has started. The amethyst version of salvia hot lips (I forget its proper name) has recovered from the winter frosts and is doing well despite having looked completely dead a few weeks ago. The ability of nature to recover is quite incredible and a continual source of wonder. Friday (23rd) marks our first workshop of the summer with a silk scarf making workshop run by Louise from Louise’s art workshops. I am very much looking forward to this and am sure everyone will have fun. Places are beginning to fill up for the Jackie Kay poetry reading on July 15th which should be a really good session (Flyer below). Let me know if you would like a place. There will be an opportunity to look round the garden at the same time if you come early. I am working on the back area where the platform was as that is pots and raised beds and allows me to garden from my wheelchair quite easily though because of a damaged right shoulder I am having to develop my left hand gardening skills. Lots more to come and enjoy over the summer. Watch this space.
